A shaped implant is placed over the existing chin bone through a small incision, sized to your proportions. It sits beneath the muscle, becomes part of the contour, and can be removed or exchanged if you ever wanted that.
The face reads in profile as a relationship between brow, nose, lips and chin. When the chin is set back, the nose looks larger and the neck looks fuller than either really is. Bringing the chin forward corrects both without touching either — which is why it's so often planned alongside rhinoplasty, and why surgeons notice chins that patients never think about.
Filler can add projection temporarily and is a reasonable way to preview the change. But maintaining a chin with filler is an annual expense forever, and large volumes of filler in the chin behave less predictably than an implant. If you already know you want the change permanently, the implant is the honest recommendation.
